The Battle of Eutaw Springs(above) commanded by Nathanael Greene on September 8, 1781at Eutawville, South Carolina, 30 miles outside of Charleston.
After recieving reinforcements from the distant country of Great Britain, Major General Nathanael Greene resumes the clash of two titans. Lieutenant Alexander Stewart of the British army was caught off guard in the morning around 4 a.m. causing he and his troops to abandon their uneaten breakfasts. That was an advantage for the Americans because the British army was weakened as a result of hunger.
The army was made up of many men who were courageous and wanted freedom for this country. They were willing to sacrifice their lives for our countries freedom. The front line of the men was commanded by Francis Marion, or the Swamp Fox. The battle took place in the early hours of a hot morning. the British scrambled to form their ranks. The British ended up spreading themselves thin. In no time at all, the front line of the British army was down. The second line scrambled to fill in. Nathanael Greene, being smart brought in his strongest guns and weakened the British again. The patriots started off with 2300 men and the British started off with 2500 men. Although the patriots had more casualties than the British we still ended up winning the battle. The patriots had 693 casualties and the British had 408 casualties. It was an amazing defeat of the British since they had more troops than the patriots. It was amazing that the patriots could even kill one British soldier because their guns were not very accurate. The battle of Eutaw Springs took place in the middle of a heavily tree covered forest. The patriots were good at maneuvering threw the forest because it was their own turf. The British on the other hand were used to having battles on an open field where both sides would line up and fire their guns at each other.

The temperature was 55- 65 degrees, the wind was 15- 20 knots, and the humidity was very high. Both sides were wearing heavy wool uniforms which made the temperature seem doubled. They were both trudging threw a swampy river, which was really disgusting. All the British soldiers were having trouble staying on their feet out of exhaustion.

The worst part for the British was that it started in the morning before they could eat their breakfast. That made the British weak and very exhausted fast. The British were also attacked off guard during the early hours of the morning. The British lost around 500 soldiers to being prisoners of the Continental Army. The patriots were trying to break away from Great Britian, away from the control of King George the third. The battle of Eutaw springs was the last battle faught in the south. the battle ended as a result of the British being too weak to hold the field. Even though the patriots didn't have very accurute guns they still defeated the British army at Eutawville South Carolina. The image below on the left is of the commonly used Flintlock musket it was used by the patriots. The image below on the right is of the commonly used Light Dragoon pistol it was used by the British. the Flintlock musket was time consuming to reload and was not very accurate. In order to hit you enemy you had to be a point blank range this proved to be a big problem. The Light Dragoon was a fast reload and was pretty acurate. This pistol is what gave the British an advantage in battles.
